I haven't done this, but on reading of your plans my first concern was that it will be apparent that a young woman is alone in some relatively isolated places, like campgrounds or sleeping in the car. This makes you fairly vulnerable if any of a certain kind of creep spots you. Have you got plans for ensuring your safety in such situations? How about a daily check-in with somebody either online or by phone? Will someone know where you plan to be and when, and what to do if you do not arrive or contact them? Does couchsurfing.com vet its people in any way, so you know you won't get ripped off while you sleep?

It could be a great adventure, but as a mom, I'd be worrying if our daughter did this.
References :
Advice for a Roadtrip?
I'm saving up this summer to go on a roadtrip- probably will be by myself for most of it- im a young white female. i have a good car that gets 40 miles to the gallon, and im trying to save at least a couple thousand dollars. along the way i plan to camp, sleep in my car, at truck stops, with family across the country, and use the website couchsurfing.com (probly only going to stay with other young females) im just wondering if anyone has done this (a long roadtrip/used couchsurfing.com) and if anyone has advice/blogs about it. about where to stay, what to bring, how to handle food, or just stories. im interested to hear from anyone whos taken a roadtrip.
i understand safety is a issue, but thats not going to stop me from going. please only answer if you have advice for a roadtrip, any length of roadtrip to anywhere, about what you brought etc. thanks.
